Barbara Shaw
Barbara Shaw is a native Illinois resident. She was born in DesPlanes, Illinois and raised in Glenview, Illinois. Her family were involved in many successful business ventures where she developed her business sense, customer service, and her management skills. Her father, Jack Shaw, a devoted father of four, and a mentor not only to his own children but to all within his community, gave Barbara the sense of wanting to help, protect, and above all not to judge people. Her mother, Susan Shaw, loved by all who where blessed to have known her, gave Barbara the sense of kindness, humor, and consideration of others.
Barbara has worked, managed, and coordinated her family’s various businesses since 1985. In 1999, she branched off to the corporate world and managed stores in Northern California for CompUSA, Best Buy, and Target, turning individual store profit margins, employee morale, and employment turnover from the bottom of the company to first in the company within their Quarters Markers. With her strong sense of family she returned to Chicago in 2003 to open, develop, and start Shaw & Associates and Shaw Legal Services, Ltd. with her sister Anne Shaw.
She has also worked on various political campaigns. Being one of the first victims of identity fraud, she had worked on changing the laws to help protect victims of identity fraud with in the state of Illinois and California.
Barbara was active in UHC on projects which include the Lawndale Carriage House adaptive reuse, the Atsushi Kikuchi House deconstruction, and energy-efficiency upgrades to True Nature Foods. She also served as Director of Operations and lent legal advice and much needed moral support in the early days of our organization.
