Doug Johnston

Volunteer

Doug Johnston hails from Ohio, moved to Chicago in 2008, and worked as a soils scientist with the Morton Arboretum from 2008-2009.
Doug joined UHC in 2008, bringing an enthusiastic attitude to projects. He was helpful with construction of the first generation of coldframes at the 2613 garden, volunteered for the BMRC, and assisted with Joy Garden and Sunlight of the Spirit Garden.

Doug is currently a candidate for PhD. in Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where the focus of his research will be urban ecology with an emphasis on urban soils and plant/animal biodiversity relationships, more specifically the synergy of humanity and nature and how we can address issues of this interaction through urban development and design.
