The Urban Habitat Chicago 2009 conference

Urban Habitat Chicago is pleased to present its first annual conference.
Chicago 2175: Creating the Change features lectures on 6 diverse but interrelated topics, hands-on training in pervious concrete installation and other sustainable technologies at the in-progress Joy Garden, all on the campus of Northside College Preparatory High School.

This conference is organized into 3 days: 1 indoor lecture session day and 2 outdoor hands-on training days.

Indoor Lecture Sessions

Features a multidisciplinary group of speakers on a range of topics which will address the most pressing environmental, social justice, and economic challenges of our day, and offer creative and effective solutions.

Pervious Concrete Installation Training and Certification

Understanding what needs to be done to change our cities is a step to creating change, but having the ability to do so is another power entirely. Learn the skills to help make our cities permeable, cooler, and ultimately more livable.

Please dress appropriately to manage sun exposure, warm weather, abrasion hazards, eye protection, and hand protection. Long sleeve shirts, pants, and boots are recommended.

Day 3 | Saturday, August 15, 2009

Outdoor Hands-on Workshops

presented by UHC staff, interns, and students of Northside Preparatory High School
12:00 noon - 4:30 pm

Solar cooker construction, biofiber utilization, solar distillation of water, composting, creation of biofuels, demonstration tour of Joy Garden and SDGG (solar dried ground garbage) creation.

Please dress appropriately to manage sun exposure, warm weather, and potential abrasion hazards.
