Join experienced ecological designer and urban farmer Michael Repkin for one or all of our step-by-step intro to organic farming workshops on Saturdays from 10am to noon, from July 16 to August 6. For beginning gardeners and experienced farmers. The third workshop in the series will focus on Growth & Maintenance. Descriptions of all the workshops are provided below.

Afternoon farming practice for attendees available on site after the workshop, working with volunteers at our urban farm at Northside College Preparatory High School from 12:30 to 4pm.

JULY 16 Supplementing your Soil:

1. Fertilization

Discover new ways to continually enrich the soil in your garden, and how different methodologies using organic material can keep it productive for years to come.

JULY 23 From Seeds to Sprouts:

2. Seeding & Transplanting

Employ easy-to-use agricultural strategies to maximize your garden’s yield. This class will give you experience putting plants into the field and will explore ways to overcome the many challenges facing seeds and seedlings.

JULY 30 100% Organic:

3: Growth & Maintenance

Learn how to protect your garden organically against pests and optimize your watering technique and energy use. While this topic is one of the most difficult in gardening, it is also the most critical. This lesson will guide you the process of creating an effective management plan.

AUG 6 Pick and Eat!

4. Harvest

Reap the benefits of your garden’s production now and in the months to come. This session will cover safe and savvy harvest and post-harvest handling, including food sanitation.
