Saturdays 24 SEP 2011 - 22 OCT 2011

Urban Agriculture:

Fall Organic Farming Series

Growing in Cool Weather

Although most people focus on early summer planting, tremendous amounts of food can still be grown as our area cools down. To extend your growing season, join Urban Habitat Chicago for this special series of three-hour cool weather organic farming workshops. Learn concepts, strategies and skills necessary to produce a bountiful harvest of very locally grown produce in a sustainable manner, late into autumn and beyond.

Experienced ecological designer and urban farmer Michael Repkin will give you the tools to effectively lengthen the growing season of your own organic garden or urban farm. Agricultural techniques covered include specific planting strategies for fall and cold frame construction, as well as maintenance, seeding and harvesting in cool weather.

Workshop attendees are invited to practice their new skills on site afterward for the afternoon with UHC volunteers at our urban farm at Northside College Preparatory High School in Chicago.

This special series builds upon the more basic information offered in our summer workshops, and is ideal for those wish to take that experience or their own gardening or farming skills to the next level.

Cost: $76.00 for non-members ; $62.00 for UHC members
