Fabricating Function and Form - Finishing touches on the farm stand, fall 2011

UHC begins its second school year teaching the GREEN LUNGS environmental program at Marshall High School, in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. The after school program empowers students not only to imagine but to enact real positive change upon their immediate built environment, while preparing them for tomorrow’s green job market.

Above, students from The After School Matters Program with UHC Instructor Mike Repkin and Empowerment Through Education and Exposure nearing the completion of a food stand that showcases several sustainable concepts at Marshall High School. The food stand was constructed using recycled materials and features rain water catchment, natural ventilation and a durable metal roof.
