Tennessee retreat
Educator and proud parent Cristin Carole (center, yellow shirt) initiated the design charette and organized the trip. Co-host Garth Hawkins is at far right.
UHC went to Tennessee for a retreat weekend and design charrette as the guests of Model Assemblage’s Neal Appelbaum and Garth Hawkins. The goal of the charette was to create a modular refuge that can grow over time for urban parents and children to be able to slow down and experience rural life.
From the charrette brief by Cristin Carole:
“The community at large is an eclectic bunch of people with various racial and religious backgrounds sexual orientations and professional experiences from around the country looking for a sustainable place to retire eventually. My interest is using the Village as an opportunity to connect urban children with their single parents through nature and sustainability week-long retreats for the next several years.”
