Why a Corn Moon?: The full moon closest to the autumn equinox is traditionally called the Harvest Moon. In 2025, the autumn equinox was on September 22, making the October full moon the Harvest Moon instead. This moved the traditional September full moon name to Corn Moon, a name rooted in Native American traditions for the time of the corn harvest.
